Helping Hands

The Helping Hands Project is the brainchild of Dr Sarah Fogarty.  Sarah recognised the need for more support services for parents who had experienced a miscarriage, stillbirth or neonatal loss especially to help them cope with their grief.  The grief and shock experienced after this loss can be shattering.  It can be a time where parents may feel alone and like no one understands.  It can be difficult to know how to start rebuilding and dealing with all the emotions and feels that accompany this time.  Sarah felt that massage could be a useful tool for some parents to help them manage grief and thus the Helping Hands Project was born.

The Helping Hands Project offers one free 60 minute massage to parents who have experienced miscarriage, stillbirth or neonatal loss in the last two years.  The Helping Hands therapists/clinic all volunteer their time.  Currently we have nine therapists/clinics in four states that are offering free 60 minute massages per month.

The therapists:

All of the Helping Hands therapists are members of professional massage associations, are qualified, have insurance and have completed a workshop on caring for individuals who have experienced miscarriage, stillbirth or neonatal loss.

The aim of all treatments is to provide a nurturing, supportive environment that provides empathy, comfort, safety and healing.

Are you interested in becoming a Helping Hands massage therapist?

I am always interested in having more massage therapists join the Project. There are some criteria involved in being part of the project. It is very important that all the therapists who are part of this project are not only good massage therapists but also have an understanding about loss and grief so it is important that you have some training in this area.

If you are interested in learning more about becoming a therapist please email Sarah on helpinghandsproject2019@gmail.com expressing your interest in becoming a Helping Hands therapist.
